NOIR – SOHO W1- Tuesday 25 July – 7–11pm
Looking
forward to going to “Rouge Noir” for
our July drinks party. Situated upstairs at “Jewel”
an oak stairwell takes you into a decadently designed

around the room and the lighting is low so as to
give a very mellow and chilled atmosphere. Relaxation
is the order of the day here so lay back, chill
and enjoy !!!
Your hosts Curtis and John will be there to meet
you and introduce you to the other guests –
no need to be shy !!! Drinks prices are reasonable
and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The
guests are all ages and professions – great
place to network and make new friends. There is
NO admission charge.

the event details, to RSVP using our automated system

Would

Adrian Gillan on a crimson fetish, gay taunts and
jibes and why reds now have cred, not just in bed.
Look around. One of Nature’s rarest assets,
Red is reserved for emergencies and maximum impact:
for strawberries and rubies, blood and brothels,
roses and robes, fire and foxes, danger and devils,
lipstick and wine. From dusky dawns to juicy cherries,
Nature is saying “watch out boys” or
“come and get it”!
So is it jealousy perhaps that has somehow subverted
the genetic grace and birthright of a red mop into
some risible curse, not least amongst boys? (more…)

Sun,
Sangria and Stonewall - Weekend of 8-10
September
A
date for everyone’s diary – it is the
first ever Stonewall fundraising walk (10 km) in
Barcelona. As one of the most vibrant cities in
Europe there is something for everyone; take a stroll
down Las Ramblas, climb Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia,
dip your toes at one of Barcelona’s fabulous
city beaches. Enjoy the culture, tapas, nightlife,
and a café culture like no other. There are
lots of reasons to celebrate, not least of all the
fact civil partnership became legal in both Spain
and the UK in 2005.
To take part individuals will pay a registration
fee of £300 (includes flights and 2 night’s
accommodation in a trendy hotel in the heart of
Barcelona’s gay district - l'Eixample). The
funds raised will go towards their Education
for All campaign. Places are limited –

Gay
Icons: Who? When? Where?
Sir
John Gielgud
In
1926, during the run of 'The Constant Nymph', he
met John Perry with whom he had his first long-standing
relationship. Perry went to live with Gielgud in
his flat overlooking Seven Dials in Covent Garden.
In 1953, he began a relationship
with Paul Anstee. It was in the early 1960s while
viewing a Kokoschka exhibition at the Tate gallery
when Gielgud spotted Martin Hensler and became friends
with him. They kept in touch afterwards, and after
six years Martin Hensler moved in with Gielgud.
Hensler was his companion for 40 years until he
died in 1999. In their later years they lived quietly
together in their country house, South Pavilion,
at Wotton Underwood, near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
After his arrest in 1953 for importuning, Gielgud
did not talk about the matter again, and despite
the press coverage, after a number of the years
most of the general public would not have known
that he was gay. In fact, after instigation by Martin
Hensler, and approval by Gielgud, Sheridan Morley
wrote in the 1988 programme note for Best of Friends
that they had lived together happily for many years.
It was not picked up by the press (more...)

Highlights!
Bolly
all round again at Circa office meet on Monday morning.
Capital Queer already framed. Boss warns me not
to take my shirt off in my next shoot! “Shoots
means suits,” she cautions. Therapist in afternoon
accuses me of getting “snide and divisive”,
listing my “self-imposed enemies”…
Josh, Girl, Kerrie, workmates, Izzy… says
could soon lose any real friends, become isolated
and end up even hating myself !!
Shock on Tuesday. Head down to basement car park
compound. Smart utterly smashed up – baseball
bat or something. What a short and eventful life,
muse I – a sad yet brave and glorious one!
Call in police. Give list of suspects long as arm
– along the lines of my therapist’s
roll-call. Nice young officer stares me up and down.
Boss says all insured so “no great harm”.
Suggests I “hire another one”. She’s
delighted on phone Wednesday morning – car
smash-up story leaked to press; photos, website
address and all. Everyone has covered it –
over 5,000 words in all - “QUEER CAR BUST
UP” roars one headline, recounts Boss –
“Gay male Soho professionals living in fear
after series of attacks on a club publicity vehicle…
orgy of violence culminating in a pulve
rized Smart…
and anonymous media tip-offs by mystery men. Drop
into Girl to say police have called off the dogs
- they’re after a different scent. En passant,
mention Josh thinks wants kids, so to please keep
her eye out for any lady friends in donor need.
Girl looks stunned; slams door in face……
