After an excellent November drinks party (Photo Gallery) we are looking forward to our December Drinks Party, so come and join us and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine on arrival (7pm-8pm).

The December CIRCA DRINKS PARTY has the exclusive use of the St Stephens Club on 2nd December (7-12) and, by special arrangement; guests can collect Passes to Shadow Lounge, Europe’s No 1 gay members club.

So come and join us and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine (7-8pm). Drinks will be available in the Bar and the Queenborough Room and Supper will be available in The Garden Room. Enjoy the spirit of the original Victorian townhouse and its lush views over the garden and St James Park.

Club drinks are: Wine: £4.50 per glass, £15.50 per bottle, Beer: £3.50, Spirits: single £3.50 (inclusive of mixer), Soft drinks: £2.25, Bottled Water: £1.00 glass.

Renowned for the quality of its food, Head Chef Alex Wood has created a 2/3 course menu (£20/£25 Inc. vat + service charge) with delicious choices.

Derek Jarman was famous as a British painter, film director and writer and because he was at the heart of artistic life in Britain for most of his life he knew everyone.

Jarman's father was a New Zealander who had a career in the RAF, so his childhood was spent at a succession of RAF bases throughout the world including Italy, India and Pakistan where he was seconded to establish the Pakistan Air Force after independence in 1947.

In December 1986 Derek Jarman was diagnosed as HIV positive, and he revealed his condition a month later. He became one of the few public figure to talk openly about his own AIDS illness.

Derek Jarman met Kevin Collins at The Tyneside Film Festival in 1987. Collins had been brought up in a village near Newcastle by parents who were socialists and devout Methodists. Jarman pursued him by letter and within a few months Collins went to London and moved in with Jarman. They were both committed campaigners with OutRage!.

Kevin Collins nursed Derek Jarman for the final seven years of his life. On 22nd. September, 1991 Derek Jarman was canonised by the Sisters of Perpetual 
Indulgence as St. Derek of Dungeness of the Order of Celluloid Knights. In 1992 he received the Malcolm Balcon Award from the British Academy. ...more...
