After an excellent June drinks party (Photo Gallery) we are looking forward to our July Drinks Party. The July CIRCA DRINKS PARTY has the elite use of the St Stephen's Club on Friday 2nd July (7-12) and, by special arrangement, guests can collect Passes to Shadow Lounge, Europe’s No 1 gay members club.

Hockney's father, Kenneth Hockney, ran an accountancy business in Bradford. Kenneth Hockney was a talented amateur artist, he was also a campaigner and wrote to world leaders including Stalin. Kenneth Hockney died in 1978 aged 74. David Hockney's mother, Laura, was born in Bradford in 1900, and initially worked as a shop assistant. She was an inspiration for his art and was the subject of many of his portraits throughout her life until she died in 1999 aged 98.

David Hockney has never hidden his gayness, and was even out at school. He studied at Bradford College of Art from 1953 to 1957 and did his military service as a conscientious objector and worked in a hospital from 1957 to 1958. He then studied at the Royal College of Art, London from 1959 to 1962 and graduated from the Royal College of Art as gold medal-winner in 1962. Founded in 1996, the London Gay Symphony Orchestra is the UK’s only LGBT orchestra and one of only a handful in the world. The LGSO was formed as a hub for the large number of gay and lesbian musicians who want to combine their musical and social lives; and prides itself on being run “by its members, for its members”. It plays a wide range of music, from baroque to contemporary. Its patrons include Clare Summerskill, Amy Lamé, Sandi Toksvig, Rt. Hon. Lord Smith of Finsbury, Paul Gambaccini and Ned Sherrin. Artists and groups it has performed with include Jimmy Somerville, Simon Callow, Rosalind Plowright and The Pink Singers. And the LGSO likes to stress it’s straight-friendly too!
