The August CIRCA DRINKS PARTY has the elite use of the St Stephens Club on 6th August (7-12) and, by special arrangement, guests can collect Passes to Shadow Lounge, Europe’s No 1 gay members club.

So come and join us and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine (7-8pm). Drinks will be available in the Bar and the Queenborough Room and Supper will be available in The Garden Room. Enjoy the spirit of the original Victorian townhouse and i ts lush views over the garden and St James Park.

Club drinks are: Wine: £4.50 per glass, £15.50 per bottle, Beer: £3.50, Spirits: single £3.50 (inclusive of mixer), Soft drinks: £2.25, Bottled Water: £1.00 glass.

Renowned for the quality of its food, Head Chef Alex Wood has created a 2/3 course menu (£20/£25 inc vat + service charge) with delicious choices.

Bill Blass’ father owned a small hardware store in Fort Wayne but he committed suicide when Blass was five years old. He went to South Side High School at Fort Wayne shortly after.

By the age of 15 Blass was having his drawings featured in local newspapers, and he was selling designs to Seventh Avenue manufacturers. He won second prize in a fashion contest sponsored by The Chicago Tribune.
In 1939 he moved to New York, aged 17, to study fashion design at Parsons School of Design.

Blass took a job as a sketcher for the sportswear firm David Crystal. During World War II he was assigned to the specialised counter-intelligence unit, 603rd Camouflage Battalion. In 1944-1945 he joined the invasion of Europe through the Battle of the Bulge and crossing the Rhine.

When he returned to New York he first worked for Anne Klein. Blass then worked as an anonymous designer for the ready-to-wear firm Anna Miller Company. When Anna Miller retired in 1959 Blass had become her head designer and he remained with the business when her brother Maurice Rentner merged their companies and so taking on Blass into his Seventh Avenue company. Within two years Blass was appointed vice-president. Click here

Whilst you can scarce avoid the news that the Olympics are in town in 2012, you may not yet have quite heard that - as well as it being the queen’s diamond jubilee year - Pride London will be hosting WorldPride 2012.

It is, of course, WorldPride that I am most looking forward to. Indeed, being given this opportunity is no small achievement in itself. WorldPride is only awarded occasionally - and only to cities that can prove that they have what it takes to organise a truly memorable event.
