Years
of jokes have only put the sex back into Essex claims
Circa’s own local lush Adrian Gillan, returning
to his out-grown peroxide roots.
How do Essex boys turn the light off after sex?
They shut the car door. What makes Dagenham Dave’s
eyes light up? A torch shone in his ear.
From Stansted to Southend: Few peoples throughout
history can have endured the torrent of abuse rained
upon Essex Boy and Girl over recent decades. Guys
like me – Essex born and bred - only survived
those long, dark years by laughing all the louder
at the uptight, soulless neo-Thatcherites looking
for scapegoats, as they chuckled and guffawed at
supposed herds of white-socked Neanderthals in Shermans
humping brain-dead air-head slags in white Ford
Capris down Lakeside. And we can scarce stop grinning
now - now that this fairy tale has actually matured
into a mythical brand with balls, with cred. more…
Sun,
Sangria and Stonewall - Weekend of 8-10 September
A
date for everyone’s diary – it is the
first ever Stonewall fundraising walk (10 km) in
Barcelona. As one of the most vibrant cities in
Europe there is something for everyone; take a stroll
down Las Ramblas, climb Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia,
dip your toes at one of Barcelona’s fabulous
city beaches. Enjoy the culture, tapas, nightlife,
and a café culture like no other. There are
lots of reasons to celebrate, not least of all the
fact civil partnership became legal in both Spain
and the UK in 2005.
To take part individuals will pay a registration
fee of £300 (includes flights and 2 night’s
accommodation in a trendy hotel in the heart of
Barcelona’s gay district - l'Eixample). The
funds raised will go towards their Education
for All campaign. Places are limited –
book now to avoid disapointment. For more details

Yves
St Laurent
Saint
Laurent's mother, Lucienne Saint Laurent, was a
beauty and socialite. His father, Charles Saint
Laurent, owned a chain of cinemas. His great-great
grandfather was the lawyer who drew up the wedding
contract between Napoleon Bonaparte and Josephine.
Saint Laurent was bullied at school, and he has
blamed this on his homosexuality.
Saint Laurent had wanted to become a theatre set
designer, but in 1953 at the age of 17 he won third
prize in a prestigious fashion competition for the
Wool Secretariat for a little black cocktail dress.
He showed talent and was hired by the great Christian
Dior. In October 1957 Saint Laurent was left in
charge while Dior went holiday but Dior died of
a heart attack. His finest achievement was probably
the revolutionary introduction of men's clothes
for women - trouser suits, safari suits and tuxedos.

can volunteer to offer free career or general
professional advice to other members – so,
say, a young lawyer can gain career advice from
a more experienced one; or anyone can get free
legal expertise. Also hands me train tickets for
Pride next weekend - in my home town! Will coming
too: a “little treat”. Boss pleased
all Pride efforts now converting into hits; been
