| Background:
Mitchell Anderson was one of six children. He graduated
with a BA in Theatre from Williams College. He also
studied at The Julliard School in New York City.
Career:
He became well-known as the violin teacher,
Ross, in the television show Party Of Five. His
character became the first openly gay father on
US television when he adopted a baby girl.
He was involved in social and political campaigns,
but kept his sexuality private for a time.
He came out publicly as gay at the 1996 Gay and
Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media
Awards. This led to much campaigning on lesbian
and gays issues. He has worked for The Victory Fund
which raises money for lesbian and gay candidates
across the USA. He has also worked for The Human
Rights Campaign and numerous local AIDS service
organisations.
