My paintings are simple, they are all based on every day experiences , situations , moments and all the little things that might lay dormant in a dark corner, somewhere inside your head , but its always there every day , every week .... Both good and bad .”
Everyday working class people are my subject matter , people I have happened upon in my travels , my painting is figurative, using oils and a random technique , meeting people gives me a chance to portray or capture a moment in their lives, one of these occasions was when I was fortunate enough to meet Ron. Ron is a veteran of world war two, the first thing to catch my eye was his medal ribbons, two rows deep, so many colours, mounted on a silver bar across his chest , the sun glinting off the highly polished silver demanded my attention like a magpie ...... and Bang !
There was Ron, a small framed little old man in a smart dark charcoal grey- blue overcoat and pants above shiny black leather shoes . My dad always said you can tell a lot about a man by his shoes.
Ron had a story, a story far darker than yours and mine, but you would never know Ron’s true story because to you and I, he is just a really nice old east ender, quietly living the rest of his days in 7 kings. He could be anyone’s grandfather, somebody’s great grandfather, a happy little fellow, kind and warm ....and Ron will never tell.
It doesn’t matter who you are, rich, poor, young, old we all have a story.
